The treated guide bar is considered useful. The wear resistance of the bar is in a class of its own. In practice, it would probably be possible to run with a single bar for at least half a year, perhaps even a year. The bars tested have also been put into use at the same time as the new machine’s chain lubrication, which likely also helps especially with the durability of the bar’s nose sprocket. The treatment itself reduces the need to remove “burrs” by an estimated 70–80%, which is directly related to bar wear. The test has now been running for 1.5 years and it will be continued and expanded to other machines in the company. This will also provide experience on the service life of an oil-lubricated bar and its nose sprocket.
